MAINPINE FIRMWARE UPDATE ANNOUNCED

Via e-mail just a few minutes ago:

Valued Customer,

In our ongoing efforts to improve our products, Mainpine is pleased to formally announce availability of 10.2.0.2 firmware for our IQ Express fax board modems. This firmware is currently being rolled-out to our board production for new units, and this firmware is available at no charge to existing IQ Express customers through Mainpine Technical Support.

This firmware release is the culmination of many years’ work and represents the very latest in firmware for our IQ Express products. The previous production-grade firmware release occurred in March, 2010 with 8.15A.0.2. The most-notable improvements in 10.2.0.2 firmware over 8.15A.0.2 are as follows…

1) Protection against component damage occurring by call origination during incoming ring voltage. In some very rare conditions a telephone company or local telephone equipment may send ring voltage to the modem in order to indicate an incoming call even though the modem has taken the line off-hook. The IQ Express 10.2.0.2 firmware adds protection against the incoming ring voltage damaging the modem components.

2) Improved V.34-Fax V.8 handshaking negotiation and fallback to traditional handshaking. In some rare circumstances electrical disturbances and other interference can make V.34-Fax V.8 handshaking rather difficult for the modem to negotiate. The IQ Express 10.2.0.2 firmware improves connectivity to some of these more-difficult destinations for outbound calls.

3) Resolves some conditions where misbehavior by the fax application could cause the modem to become unresponsive. In some unfortunate cases a fax application can lose track of modem responses or can otherwise miscommunicate with the modem. Under certain rare circumstances that misbehavior by the application can confuse the modem enough that the modem will become unresponsive - requiring the modem to be reset manually (usually by power-cycling the fax server). The IQ Express
10.2.0.2 firmware improves modem resiliency against incorrect application behavior.

All Mainpine IQ Express customers are welcome to perform the firmware update themselves by completing the Mainpine Downloads Request Form which, upon completion, immediately leads to the downloads page.
Download the Mainpine Production Testsuite CD ISO from there and follow the instructions given on the downloads page.

Alternatively, customers are invited to contact Mainpine Technical Support and schedule a firmware update that will be performed by the Mainpine support technician connecting remotely to the fax server.
(Customers who have had Mainpine Technical Support connected to their fax server since the beginning of January 2012 have likely already had this firmware update performed.)

The Mainpine Downloads Request Form is available at:

http://www.mainpine.com/download-drivers-request

Mainpine Technical Support can be reached by e-mailing support at mainpine dot com or by calling 1-866-363-6680 and pressing option 2 at the voice prompt.

Thank you.

Using Fax Server as workstation?

Looking to upgrade our fax server from single port (old winxp machine) to multiport. Can I use a (new) Windows Server 2008 box with mainpine 4 port fax card (fax server) as a workstation? Seems kinda a waste to have all that power just sitting there dialing all day….. might as well sit a biller or coder in front of it or something. Is that possible? Wise?

We can’t. eCW says it’s a “bug” and may not be fixed even with the next service pack. If it’s a “bug” one would think all users such as would be having the same issue - are you?

Scanning back of insurance card

We’re using MedicScan SnapScan camera to scan insurance cards. The bookkeeper wants BOTH sides of the card scanned, as she says there is important information on the back side. However, ECW says you cannot scan both sides of the card.

Any thoughts?

Is there a way to add a comment to the cover sheet before the fax goes out?

First off, thanks for all the great advice on this forum for updating the cover sheet. We now have a handsome cover sheet.

However, the front office wants the ability to add a quick note to the cover sheet (e.g., “Please sign page 3 and fax back.”) before hitting the Send Fax button.

The screen has this wonderfully large, blank, gray area where a note would fit just fine, but there’s no way to update it.

This seems like a pretty obvious need. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Brad

2nd post, ongoing issue with outgoing faxes bening sent with no margins, eCW refuses to call back

Earlier this year I posted on this and the issue was temporarily resolved short-term but has since been ongoing for several months.

All our faxes generated from within the Progress Note are sent with no margins - the text extends to the very edge of the page, which means that our recipients, when printing, cannot read the left side. This means an endless stream of calls from physician offices, lab companies, etc. that result in me having to print the fax hard copy, re-scan and then fax again.

eCW determined it was a “bug” and was sent to development several months ago, where it sat with no further contact until I called them a few weeks ago. This resulted in contact from eCW claiming that our fax server needed to be upgraded from Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation SP1 to SP2. eCW had tried to state that was the original issue this past summer, but once our IT people and Mainpine both proved to eCW there IS no such SP2, eCW then took the “it’s a bug” stand.

Our IT people once again sent word to eCW that no such SP2 exists and sent them a screen cap of the Microsoft site showing this. eCW will not return phone calls, whether I call them or a Customer Service supervisor sends an “expedite” request. In the meantime, the calls continue, and yes, the margins on IE are set at the proper levels.

The ticket is 1563743 (you can tell how old it is from the number) - anyone have any ideas? Mainpine says they have done all they can. Somehow, methinks if this were happening for this long at one those big practices/providers eCW trumpets in their press releases, they wouldn’t let it go/ignore phone calls in this manner, but that’s just my humble opinion.

Thanks.

New scanner

We purchased the Fujitsu fi-5110-C 5 years ago. Now we are interested in purchasing another scanner but unfortunately the 2 fujitsu scanners listed on the ECW site are discontinued. The Panasonic scanners are approximately $1000 and for our 1 provider practice the price is a bit steep. Any suggestions on a compatible scanner that is reasonable?

When printing locked progress notes has anyone had some of the notes come out in much smaller font than the rest? It seems to be provider specific.

Advice would be appreciated!
