Program freezes when trying to fill scripts from “treatment” window

Just today, our group has been unable to fill any scripts from the treatment window - you can fill in data for the med, but then, when you try to “apply” - the program totally freezes, and you have to shut it down and re-start. Our office manager has been on the phone with ECW support all day - no fix as yet - they say it is a “performance” issue. Is anyone else having the same trouble? Is there a fix?

Thank you.

DPS # on prescription

We have been told by ecw support that adding DPS # to the prescriptions cant be done (ticket #1219045). We have had them on the scripts on the past. This is state law that this must be on each script. Have any of you had this issue?

forwarding refill requests to other doctor

My partner recently went on month long vacation, last month, so I was covering her patients while gone. All the refills that came in were handled by me. Now some of these prescriptions are due for refills again, and since I sent the last one, the refills are coming to me.

How do I handle incoming refill requests from SureScripts that are coming to me instead of the patient’s usual primary care doctor? Please don’t tell me I have to make a telephone encounter for each of these requests.

MCMP 2010 patch

... [feels sheepish for asking a silly question] ... but what is this supposed to do?

I thought it would update our PQRI with the correct codes so that Measure 125 would show G8553 instead of the old codes. But it hasn’t. Have talked with support who says that our MCMP 2010 patch is working.

So ... am I expected the wrong thing?

::scratching head::

thanks

Big mistake - why didn’t the EMR prevent this

I recently sent an electronic script for macrobid a patient who is marked as allergic to macrobid in ECW as a structured allergy. Script was sent Erx as well. Pt picked up the script only to remind me of her allergy. The system failed here. I failed in writing the script, ECW failed is not having a pop up alert for that, Sure scripts failed in not knowing this, and CVS failed in dispensing it.

I thought that ECW should have caught my mistake. Any computerized system/EMR worth it’s salt should catch that simple but deadly interaction. But I got not warning or verification to remind me of the allergy. In fact, the only I got is the little allergy box was colored RED, which stupidly did not catch my eye.

Am I missing something here? Is there a way the the EMR or Surescript can prevent this script from being sent/filled? If not, then I ask ECW to go back to the drawing board since this should be a funadmental feature.

Trouble with Rx Eligiblity and Formularies

RxHub is fairly new to us, going on a couple of months. It seems like it should be a nice addition to eCW and help cut down on patient calls from the pharmacy telling us that the med prescribed is too expensive, ect...resulting in more work on the provider/MA. But at this point I am a tad bit frustrated. We have a HUGE list of patients on our Eligibility Check Error Logs and I have noticed that Providence Insurance (a very large patient base for us) is one of the biggest problems. I logged a ticket with our IPA and they have been trying to get eCW and Surescripts to help figure out why the eligibility is not working for Providence patients but the too companies seem to busy pointing fingers at each other that so far I have received no help from either of them. Has anyone else run to problems with the eligibility not working with certain insurances and if so how were you able to fix it.

Is there a way to look up a log of eRx and faxed Rx over the last several weeks. The eprescription screen only lets you see 1 day at a time and the fax log is a headache since it includes all faxes, not just Rx.

MEDCO electronic refill requests

I contacted MEDCO today because one of my providers is sick of receiving faxed refill requests from them.

The MEDCO rep informed me that they ARE capable of sending the refill requests electronically but eClinicalWorks is not signed up for this service. He told the doctor’s wife it would make HIS LIFE easier if eCW would enable the electronic refills, but they do not allow it. I emailed the rep back and confirmed with him that eCW is the one who is not capable, not MEDCO and I quote, “eClinicalWorks is not certified for mail order renewals.”

Is this a true statement by the MEDCO rep? Since we do not get refill requests from any mail order pharmacy, is this true across the board for all mail orders and if so, why? The sheer number of fax requests is very labor intensive.

“not allowed to accept stamped or electronic signatures”

I am getting this notice more and more from mail order pharmacies and insurance companies like this outdated institution RightSource from Humana. The notice state “the Arizona State Board does not allow us to accept stamped signatures for any prescription or Electronic signatures for controlled medications...” These are the usual pharmacies that are too cheap to upgrade to surescripts so won’t accept escripts either.

How do people get around this since we faxed a script for norvasc to them with my jpg signature on it. And the faxed Rx specifically states Electronically generated signature?
