Just curious if anyone’s using this. Our phone hardware (mostly wireless) is starting to fail and the whole system is virtually without reasonable support here. We’re looking at replacing the whole system and there are only a couple of vendors in town anymore (BTW - Wichita is about 350K people). And the price tag is super high. So, that made me wonder if other offices are changing phone technology? Any thoughts would be welcome!

In addition to the craziness associated with the Adderall shortage. does it seem like we are having a lot of shortages of meds in the last 6 months? Right now, we can’t get lidocaine in vials to mix with rocephin, toradol injection and reagent to mix with stool samples for occult blood testing. Is it just Texas or is it around the country?

I recognize the sensitivity of discussions of security and eCW, but I have stumbled across something while searching for large redundant files to delete to recover disk space, that requires immediate action on my part. I need some advice, having failed to find a similar thread in the Wiki.

As part of its backup strategy, eCW writes the entire database out to the server, in files corresponding to each table in the database, in clear text. Users, Encounters, Progress Notes, prescription histories, all of it in plain, unencrypted text files accessible to anyone who can access the server.

We want to take the Hi-Tech Act mandate to encrypt data at rest seriously, and encrypt data at rest. We don’t want to rely on the rather time-worn excuse, my vendor did it, if a breach or audit occurs.

My question to you all: does anyone have any experience with encrypting their eCW servers, what software did you use, and how was the interface with ECW?

I would guess the answer is ‘Yes’, as that’s what ‘perpetual’ implies.

1. For the GOP to advocate for forced electronic medical records is highly disturbing. If they are better, which they aren’t, then the market forces would make them dominant. For Gingrich to do this is hypocrisy.

2. Because market forces did not craft these things, ecw and the others are allowed to be as ugly and clunky as they are. We just get used to it because we have no other options. No wonder they’re so ugly and the support is patchy, they don’t need to please us, they need only to give some politicians a cut.

3. So sad that we’ve allowed politicians to make health care decisions. Politicians who have never made a diagnosis are running the system, gaming the system. Meanwhile, we’re adding layers of complexity, layers of add-on tech and admin support.

The whole thing is disgusting.
